Job Summary
The Chemical Inventory & Equipment Technician is responsible for the maintenance of the chemical stockroom and its inventory, issuing chemicals and supplies, collecting chemical waste for proper disposal, assisting in equipment and instrument maintenance, including performing or arranging for instrument repair as needed. The Technician will follow Institute protocols and regulatory requirements for handling chemicals and waste and maintaining records, including computer-located systems

Minimum Qualifications
   » Associate's Degree in chemistry or science related discipline
   » 3 years related practice in chemical receiving, safe handling of chemicals and gases/gas cylinders and chemical inventorying
   » practice troubleshooting and repairing simple electrical or electronic equipment, working with tools (hand or power), quality control of or operating sensitive equipment.
   »significant combinations of education, training and practice may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications
   » practice in chemical safety in an academic or research environment
   » DOT Hazardous Materials training certificate
   » RCRA training certificate

   » Working expertise of applicable federal, state and local regulations relative to laboratory safety
   » Demonstrated expertise of lab safety practices
   » Demonstrated oral and written communication expertise
   » Planning, organizing and effective time management expertise
   » Excellent interpersonal and communication expertise
   » capability to work effectively under pressure and meet established goals, objectives and timelines
   » Excellent customer service expertise to communicate with vendors and other employees, faculty, students
   » Demonstrated mechanical capability

Starting income/Rate
Expected hiring range: $22.00 - $27.75/hr
