Job Summary
The Multilingual Writing Specialist works in the Center for Global Communication+Design (COMM+D) and supports international and domestic students through consultations, class presentations, and workshops on writing, oral presentations, and visual design. The Multilingual Specialist helps manage the tutoring schedule and everyday operations of COMM+D, participates in training peer tutors, provides direct support to students, and develops student and faculty resources in consultation with the Director and other university faculty and staff. The specialist serves as a campus expert on academic support for multilingual students.

Minimum Qualifications
   » Master's degree or equivalent in TESOL, Second Language Acquisition, Linguistics, or related field.
   » Three (3) or more years of practice teaching writing and oral presentations for academic purposes to
students at the college level, including English language learners.
   » practice with a range of academic conventions of writing and speaking; capability to lgain the basics of
unfamiliar conventions and genres
   » practice working with students, faculty, and staff with diverse backgrounds.
   » knowledge of the written and oral communication needs of culturally and linguistically diverse learners
   » significant combinations of education, training and practice may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications
   » iAdvanced skill in a second language, preferably Mandarin
   » Administrative practice in a writing center or equivalent academic support program
   » practice supervising and training peer tutors 

Minimum Knowledge, expertise, and Abilities
   » Excellent writing, verbal, and interpersonal communication expertise
   » Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
   » Excellent planning, organizing, and effective time management expertise
   » Requires capability to anticipate and solve problems
   » capability to lgain and interpret academic policies and procedures
   » Proficiency with Microsoft Office

Preferred Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities
   » Knowledge of graphic design principles to assist students with oral presentations, resume formatting, interface design for websites, data visualizations

Shift
Business Hours with weekends or evenings occasionally required
