Job Summary The Director of the Genomics Research Core will supervise the day-to-day management of the Genomics Core facility and report to the Director of Research Cores in Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies (CBIS). The Director will organize and conduct user training and assist investigators with sample preparation, equipment use and with the development of research protocols, as well as data analysis and funding proposals. The Director will also be expected to participate actively in genetics research activities and to submit and/or participate in grant applications for significant research and equipment funding opportunities. The Director is expected to remain current with the latest advances in genetics and instrumentation through interactions with vendors and conference attendance. Minimum Qualifications • Ph.D. in a life science field or related field • Minimum three (3) years direct practice with NGS-focused molecular/chemical biology • Wide-ranging practice in application of NGS platforms to complex biological research questions, particularly in the areas of cancer and microbiome • skills in the design and procurement of molecular profiling data using contemporary platforms for genomic, transcriptional and epigenetic profiling and including single-cell profiling techniques required. • Background in development of novel NGS protocols that enable investigation of scientific hypotheses and elucidation of biological mechanisms required. • In-depth expertise of contemporary NGS technologies and experimental design • practice with genomic data integration and data mining • practice working with NGS data, such as Illumina Hiseq/miSeq sequencing candidates must meet stated minimum education and practice requirements. Minimum expertise, Skills, and Abilities • expertise of diagnostic techniques for a wide variety of equipment • practice with statistical, spreadsheet, graphics and word-processing software packages. track-record in use of NGS methods to answer complex research questions in cancer biology, microbiome, etc • Planning, organizing and effective time management skills • Desire and capability to work well in a team environment • Familiar with open source and commercial software tools for genomic data analysis, such as BWA, TOPHAT, STAR, CUFFLINKS, IGV, VARSCAN, GATK, ANNOVAR, IPA, etc. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills • capability to work effectively under pressure and meet established goals and objectives • capability to anticipate and solve problems • capability to work independently Shift Business Hours: Monday - Friday Starting income/Rate Expected hiring range: $95,000 - $105,000 Pay transparency disclosure: The selected candidate's income will be determined located on factors that include the available budget, internal equity, and the final candidate's qualifications, practice, education and other job-related credentials.
