Job Summary
NOTE: this job offer is full time from August 1 through May 31each year, with the capability to spread benefits & pay over 12 months.
The Counselor I will facilitate the normal developmental process of Rensselaer students and assist students whose normal developmental process is being impeded by adjustment problems and other disorders. The Counselor I will work with students individually and in groups, as well as proactively work with the Rensselaer Community to create an environment that will allow students to maximize their personal growth. this job offer will also develop and implement mental health avoidance and education programs.

Minimum Qualifications
   » Master's degree in social work, counseling or related field
   » LMSW / LMHC
   » Three (3) years of practice, with at least 1 year being post-licensure
candidates must meet stated minimum education and practice requirements.

Preferred Qualifications
   » Clinical practice with young adult/adolescent populations is especially desired
   » Clinical work practice in a higher education setting is valuable
   » practice with electronic health record systems
   » Clinical practice with at least one of traditionally underserved student population and/or International students 

Minimum expertise, expertise, and Abilities
   » expertise of crisis intervention techniques
   » capability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress
   » capability to work effectively with a wide variety of constituencies in a diverse community
   » capability to effectively communicate in written and verbal form
   » capability to effectively communicate information, test results, diagnoses and/or proposed treatment in a manner easily understood by the individuals
   » capability to assess mental status in patients and to provide treatment options

Incidental driving possible, but not required

Starting income/Rate
NOTE: this job offer is full time from August 1 through May 31each year, with the capability to spread benefits & pay over 12 months.
Expected hiring range:  
   »Counselor I  - $55,000 - $58,000 per 10-months, paid monthly 
Pay transparency disclosure: The selected candidate's income will be determined located on factors that include the available budget, internal equity, and the final candidate's qualifications, practice, education and other job-related credentials. This hiring range is provided as Rensselaer's good faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting.
