Job Summary
The adjunct Director, Outdoor Programs supports the Associate Director of Outdoor Programs and leadership abilities in the supervision of recreational located programs, specifically in outdoor programs, informational/educational sessions, controlling access of and monitoring use by patrons, membership, activities/programs, scheduling, and representing Rensselaer to the campus community. The adjunct Director will focus on the expansion of the trips and overnight outings program, indoor and outdoor rock climbing, and other skill-located adventure sports.

Minimum Qualifications
   » Bachelor's Degree in outdoor recreation or related field
   » 1 to 3 years of significant professional field instruction practice in at least two of the following technical skill disciplines (e.g., outdoor rock climbing, mountain biking, caving, kayaking, canoeing, hiking/backpacking, whitewater rafting, skiing, ice climbing, etc.) preferably holding certification with a nationally recognized organization (e.g., Wilderness First Responder, LNT Master Trainer, ACA, AMGA, PCIA, ACCT, etc.)
   » Wilderness First Aid (WFA) or Wilderness First Responder (WFR) required (if only WFA, must have availability to obtain WFR within first 6 months of hire)
   » significant combinations of education, training and practice may be considered.
   » Valid US driving license required, along with the capability to meet underwriting requirements

Preferred Qualifications
   » Master's Degree in a related field
   » Certified Instructor in CPR/AED and First Aid (SOLO, WMA, WMI, NOLS)
   » Instructor certifications through accredited outdoor recreation bodies (I.E., ACA, PCIA, AMGA, ACCT, etc.)
   » AMGA or PCIA Climbing Wall Instructor certification
   » AMGA or PCIA Single Pitch Instructor certification (availability to obtain within first 18 months of employment)
   » Active in professional organizations such as AORE, WEA, AEE, NIRSA, etc 

Minimum Knowledge, expertise, and Abilities
   » Knowledge of student services related practices and applicable professional standards
   » Demonstrated capability to build strong student relationships with a diverse student population
   » capability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with diverse audiences.
   » Demonstrated knowledge of the needs of diverse student populations.
   » capability to gather and evaluate information and make effective recommendations.
   » Proficiency in Microsoft Office
   » capability to demonstrate flexibility and adaptcapability to changing program needs
   » Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal expertise
   » Demonstrated commitment to customer service
   » capability to prioritize, plan, and organize, to work independently and as part of a team.
   » capability to work effectively under pressure and meet established goals and objectives.
   » capability to anticipate and solve problems.

Shift
Business Hours with weekends or evenings required

TravelRegular overnight travel is required (up to 25%)

Driving
Driving a passenger van seating 14 or fewer

Starting income/Rate
Expected hiring range: $55,500 - $60,000
Pay transparency disclosure: The selected candidate's income will be determined located on factors that include the available budget, internal equity, and the final candidate's qualifications, practice, education and other job-related credentials. This hiring range is provided as Rensselaer's good faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting.
