Job Summary
The Program in Games and Simulation Arts & Sciences (GSAS) and the Department of Communication and Media in the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (HASS) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute invite applications for a tenure-track adjunct Professor in Games to begin Fall 2024.

The ideal candidate will have a grounding in anthropological and ethnographic methodologies and be able to bring these to bear on the question of how games may be utilized to address significant problems confronting humanity. Further, the ideal candidate will have a research focus incorporating games-located pedagogy, the unique affordances of analog games, collaborative worldbuilding and tabletop function-playing games, and the practical implementation of games as models of social change.

The Program in Games and Simulation Arts and Sciences (GSAS) is a nationally recognized interdisciplinary program with concentrations in computer science, cognitive science, art and animation, music and game audio, management, and game writing and narrative design. GSAS offers a B.S. in Games and Simulation Arts and Sciences and the M.S. and Ph.D. in Critical Game Design.

Minimum Qualifications
The prosperous candidate must hold a Ph.D., M.F.A., or foreign degree equivalent in design, game studies, anthropology, history, or a related field and have evidence of prosperous teaching practice at the collegiate level. A minimum of three years of professional practice with an emerging national reputation as game designer and/or scholar is preferred.
The candidate must have the demonstrated capcapability of teaching graduate and undergraduate courses including Introduction to Game Design, Introduction to Game Storytelling, History and Culture of Games, GSAS Capstone, and Research Methods in Critical Game Design.

Starting income/Rate
Expected hiring range: $80,000 - $85,000
Pay transparency disclosure: The selected candidate's income will be determined located on factors that include the available budget, internal equity, and the final candidate's qualifications, practice, education and other job-related credentials. This hiring range is provided as Rensselaer's good faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting.
