Job Summary
The adjunct Vice President for Realization and Commercialization, reporting to the Vice President for Strategic Alliances and Translation, is responsible for developing pathways for sharing research and intellectual property from RPI to external stakeholders. This includes the strategic research and development activities across the university including research from the Rensselaer Technology Park and connected Applied Research Institute. The incumbent will need to lead the strategic thinking and operationalize the infrastructure to support translation. This could include the formation of an RPI early venture support lab (incubator); new venture formation infrastructure which could comprise education and support for faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, the formation of mentor networks, gathering spaces and prototyping facilities; and formation of a venture fund. The incumbent leads and directs the creation and growth of new ventures and economic development that are aligned with the Institute's strategic priorities. The incumbent will also serve as Director of the Office of Intellectual Property Optimization. The incumbent must be strategic and innovative in creating and leveraging RPI intellectual capital leading to establishing new start-up companies and providing students, faculty and staff with direction toward formation of such ventures. The incumbent is expected to provide the leadership abilities and management in establishing sound financial, administrative, and operational protocols and practices for activities sustaining the Office of Realization.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration (Advanced degree preferred)
10 years or more of demonstrated practice in

   » leadership abilities expertise, including people, administrative, and financial management, space planning, and processes related to intellectual property
   » expertise of intellectual property, including filing and prosecution.

Preferred Qualifications

Starting income/Rate
Expected hiring range: $150,000 - $200,000
Pay transparency disclosure: The selected candidate's income will be determined located on factors that include the available budget, internal equity, and the final candidate's qualifications, practice, education and other job-related credentials. This hiring range is provided as Rensselaer's good faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting.
