Listing description Information Technology Services (ITS) at the University at Albany is seeking candidates for a Network Engineer. this job offer is responsible for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of the University network infrastructure, which spans multiple campuses and locations. This entry-level position plays a significant function in supporting the complex, evolving infrastructure needs of this sophisticated R1 research institution. The Network Engineer works with other technology professionals to implement, administer, and troubleshoot routers, switches, copper and fiber cabling, wireless technologies, and unified communications infrastructure. The prosperous candidate has working expertise of these technologies, combined with passion and enthusiasm for expanding and improving their skills. This is an excellent opportunity for someone new to the field to advance and develop professionally. The Network Engineer works closely with ITS staff, other departments, vendors, contractors, and service providers to grow and improve the network, assure the smooth delivery of services, and improve the student practice. She/He/They possess excellent communication and time management skills, can professionally represent ITS as needed and are adept at working independently or as a member of a team. Main Responsibilities: » Participate in the design, installation, maintenance, repair, inspection, labeling, and inventory of all network infrastructure » Analyze and diagnose network problems, troubleshoot, recommend, and implement corrective actions » Plan, schedule, and implement upgrades and maintenance » Design up-to-date, efficient solutions that reduce operational effort and expense. » Stay current with industry trends and network technologies, develop, and follow a professional development plan, and regularly provide subject matter skills » Create, publish, and maintain up-to-date and accurate documentation, including system standards, service tickets, project plans, network diagrams, etc. » Effectively convey technical issues to stakeholders » Work well independently and in teams » Be prepared to work at multiple sites » Be available to provide scheduled support and consultation outside normal business hours, including occasional evenings, holidays, or weekends, within reasonable professional obligation and expectation General Requirements: Minimum Qualifications required » Bachelor's Degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization » candidates must clearly address their capability to work with a culturally diverse population in their application or during the interview » At least one (1) year of practice working in a technology environment Preferred Qualifications required » Juniper and/or Cisco network certification(s) » practice with Cisco and Juniper Mist Wireless » practice with fiber optic and copper (voice and data) network design, support, and troubleshooting » Familiarity with data center switching and core infrastructure Additional Information: Professional Rank and income Range: Lead Programmer/Analyst, SL3; $70,000-75,000 Special Notes: Visa sponsorship is not available for this job offer.
