What is an IT Product Manager?
The IT Product Manager is a fast-paced function where innovative thinking is prized. They focus on the delivery of cloud services including leading and delivering the entire lifecycle from product definition and planning through production and release. The IT Product Manager establishes relationships with internal constituents to represent the voice of customers in IT and translates customer vision into shared Product Roadmaps. The IT Product Manager also supervises the modifications, upgrades and maintenance of the product or product line and provides continuing guidance and direction for project teams. To make the whole process run smoothly and seamlessly, maintains oversight from initiation through to delivery, and contacts with other departments on technical matters. This function centralizes the oversight and vision across enterprise applications to help the I&O organization focus on rapid innovation and enable the business to drive Central Hudson’s digital transformation.
 
What does an IT Product Manager do?
   » Leads the design process of medium complexity digital product deployment plans, working with IT and business functional groups including the Project Management Office, Customer practice Office, and other enterprise functions (I&O, Application Development) to ensure proper business direction and solutions to realize the corporate objectives
   » Provides guidance on the techniques and tools to use and achieve product goals on time and on cost, while managing product risk
   » Acts as the escalation point for key product issues
   » Provides input into recommendations for resource allocation across Functional Organizations to achieve product objectives
   » Establishes key relationships with internal constituents across technical and functional groups
   » Provides input into the development of product budgets and roadmaps
   » Provides input into the rationalization of product portfolios and prioritization of investments to improve efficiency
   » Monitors product O&M and Capital spend to ensure planned resources are available to meet product goals
   » Develops and plans resource allocation and distribution, including employees, equipment and other resources
   » Responsible for the identification of IT, business, and electric utility industry trends that may impact product lifecycles
   » Participates in special projects to improve Processes and Technologies
   » Takes responsibility for personal learning, development, and time management, setting achievable and significant work jobs and managing personal targets
   » Demonstrates a commitment to Central Hudson’s organizational values, including performing to a high ethical standard and focused on integrity, collaboration, and teamwork in all efforts
   » Provides support for storm/emergency restoration efforts
 
What does it take to be an IT Product Manager?
Required:
   » Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of practice in Information Technology or a related field
   » Knowledge of agile and/or waterfall product development, DevOps and SDLC methodologies/framework
   » capability to develop an implementation plan for product development/integration located on business requirements and IT strategies
   » capability to lead cross functional groups to deliver product solutions and to work effectively with senior management
   » Knowledge of IT industry trends including hardware, software (package or development), operating system, middleware, database, data warehouse, security, and network tools as they apply to providing solutions to stated business issues or opportunities
   » Knowledge of application lifecycle development methodology; must be able to manage large product efforts across business units and be able to effectively prioritize multiple product lines within varying deadlines
   » Strong decision-making expertise; good verbal and written communication expertise; good negotiation expertise to reach results that gain the support and acceptance of all parties
   » Strong knowledge of change management principles
   » knowledge of key cloud and data engineering technologies and emerging trends
   » capability to be flexible and adaptable in the face of changing organizational priorities, technology, and processes
   » Valid driver’s license
Preferred:
   » practice in the Utility industry
   » Knowledge of business re-engineering principles and processes
   » capability to analyze the current IT environment to detect critical deficiencies and be able to recommend solutions for improvement
   » knowledge of business goals and objectives as they relate to customer use cases and solutions
   » capability to understand Central Hudson’s IT technology strategy and, to provide direction to leverage existing technology investment and skill sets
   » Exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments
