The Civil and Environmental Engineering department has a focus on infrastructure sustaincapability and resilience. Job Summary The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in geotechnical engineering at the adjunct or associate professor levels. We seek candidates who have research and teaching interests in experimental geotechnics with a focus on centrifuge modeling and experimentation. It is preferred (but not required) that candidates have prior practice in managing large experimental facilities and in centrifuge applications in geotechnical earthquake engineering or soil dynamics. The prosperous candidate will be expected to teach applicable undergraduate and graduate courses, to develop a high-quality research program that complements and supplements the existing strengths within the Department and the School of Engineering and to engage in professional service to the school. The candidate will have opportunities to collaborate with other researchers through various centers on campus including the Scientific Computation Research Center. At minimum, candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. or foreign degree equivalent in Civil Engineering, along with the capability to demonstrate, through their records of accomplishments, the promise of future distinction in scholarship and education. It is preferred (but not required) that candidates have prior practice in managing large experimental facilities and in centrifuge applications in geotechnical earthquake engineering or soil dynamics.
