Job Summary The Director of Principal Gifts reports to the Associate Vice President for Development and Fundraising and is responsible for developing the principal gift plan that will maximize philanthropy from donors capable of $1,000,000 gifts and above to support Rensselaer's highest priorities. The Director will develop a comprehensive strategy to engage interested individuals, expand the number and level of individual donors, and move them toward a transformative gift to the Institute. In addition to managing a portfolio of Principal Gift prospects, the Director is responsible for tracking and coordinating principal gift donors across Institute Advancement. The Director of Principal Gifts provides executive level staffing and support around principal gift prospects and Institute fundraising priorities. Minimum Qualifications » Bachelor's Degree Required » 7 year's related and progressively responsible professional fundraising and management practice preferably in a college, university or academic setting » Demonstrated success in personally cultivating, soliciting, and closing gifts $1 Million+ » Valid US driver's license significant combinations of education, training and practice may be considered. Preferred Qualifications » Master's degree preferred Minimum Knowledge, expertise, and Abilities » capability to develop effective partnerships with internal and external constituencies » Proven capability to establish and maintain relationships with high-level prospects and close significant gifts » capability to manage fundraising goals and expectations in a metrics-driven, deadline-oriented environment. » capability to set priorities while also contributing to team effort in Institute Advancement » capability to exercise good judgment, to demonstrate an knowledge of ethics related to development activities and to use discretion in interactions with donors, prospects and others. » capability to conduct research and assemble data, analyzes information, and prepares effective, accurate and timely reports and other documents to support development activities. » Excellent oral and written communication expertise » Strong organizational expertise • capability to anticipate and solve problems • Strong analytical expertise and capability to interpret financial data • capability to work effectively under pressure and meet established goals and objectives • capability to work with a diverse population • Strong computer expertise and knowledge capability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion.
