Job Details Level: practiced Job Job location: Woodland Pond, Inc - New Paltz, NY Employment type: Full Time income Range: Undisclosed Job Shift: Day DescriptionNurse Educator Responsible to Position Classifications Director of Nursing Salaried/Exempt Directly Supervises and Evaluates None Is Back Up To: DON Is Backed Up By: DON WOODLAND POND CONFORMANCE STATEMENT In the performance of their respective tasks and responsibilities all employees are expected to conform to the following: Performing quality work with or without direct supervision Interacting professionally with other employees, residents, guests, and all others Working effectively and in conformity with the Woodland Pond Communication Fundamentals Completing tasks independently while knowledge the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations Complying with all federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations as well as Woodland Pond policy and procedure at all times Position Summary The Nurse Educator is responsible for the development and implementation of in-service education for all nursing staff while working collaboratively with all department heads and Human Resources in assigning Electronic Learning Modules and in-services, as deemed necessary ESSENTIAL tasks AND RESPONSIBILITIES (*CF indicates Critical Function) Administrative Functions: Notifies the Director of Nursing and Administrator on call as required Is sensitive to highly confidential information Works with the appropriate parties to review contracts for wound care and nursing supplies Participates actively with IDT to determine the educational needs of the facility Serves as resident advocate and ensures resident rights are maintained Supports the medical staff Works collaboratively with all departments at Woodland Pond Assists with facilitation of consistency between all units in nursing care and nursing staff compliance with policies and standards of care Promotes mission and values of Woodland Pond Serves as a function model and resource for nursing staff (*CF) Participates in investigations as assigned Assists with facilitation of accurate, appropriate, and complete documentation by all nursing staff, as directed by Director of Nursing Provides yearly mandatory education programs in conformity with New York State Dept. Of Health and NYS Education Department for all employees of the facility, utilizing Net Learning and other delivery techniques as requested (*CF) Plans and develops continuing education programs in nursing in conformity with NYS Education Dept. and Dept. of Health requirements pertaining to C.N.A. education (*CF) Assists Department Heads for employee training in their individual department as requested (*CF) Provides remedial in-services to nursing staff members as determined by the Director of Nursing (*CF) Performs audits as directed by the Director of Nursing Participates in the selection and utilization of educational materials Assists in revising and developing nursing department policies and procedures Develops instructional materials and evaluates commercially produced materials for use in staff development (*CF) Identifies staff development needs through the use of Quality Assurance audits and assists in the development of plans of correction for problems noted in Q.A. studies (*CF) Maintains a working knowledge of the OBRA Regulations Manual Teaches BLS course to appropriate staff and ensures compliance of nursing staff (*CF) Care Plan, Kardex, MDS and Assessment Is aware of and able to train staff on each Communication Uses communication to enhance quality of resident care and staff working environment Personnel/Staff Development Assists with employee performance audits, as scheduled (i.e. 90 HHA) Promotes an environment of learning Ensures nursing staff attends mandatory in-services and meets minimum continuing education requirements (*CF) Creates and sends monthly reports from electronic learnings to the department heads as needed to faciliatate timely completion Assists in facilitating work consistency among staff with education of policy and procedures Promotes a positive, friendly work environment Equipment and Supplies Contributes to the discussion of appropriate supplies available and monitors that supplies are utilized appropriately to avoid waste Policy and Procedure Ensures nursing staff consciousness of manuals, including other departments (e.g. SDS, emergency protocols). Assists other departments with development of developmental manuals as needed Constantly strives to enhance the resident and staff practice Immediately reports unusual problem/accident/incident regarding resident care to Unit Manager and/or the DON Safety/Infection Control Ensures staff education with standards and regulations (*CF) Staffing Coverage Works beyond normal working hours, or in other positions temporarily when necessary (e.g. administers medications) Is subject to callback during emergency conditions Is part of the MOD rotation schedule (*CF) continuing Education Must continually strive to enhance knowledge, and ensure evidenced located nursing is being practiced Encouraged to attend an out-of-facility continuing education seminars Completes all required training and in-services All other tasks as assigned GENERAL expertise AND ABILITIES Maintains high standards for work areas, attitude and appearance Understands that honesty and ethics are essential in the performance of tasks Prepares to lgain and grow professionally, on a continual basis Demonstrates maturity in judgment and behaviors Works harmoniously with others Seeks out new methods and principles to incorporate into the nursing practice Creates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment Makes independent decisions and is self motivated Plans, organizes, develops, implements and interprets the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures necessary to provide quality care Promotes teamwork and collaboration among Woodland Pond staff members Works a flexible schedule, as needed Maintains predictable and reliable attendance Qualifications LPN or RN graduate of an accredited school of nursing Four years of clinical nursing, with two years of wound care practice required Holds a current, unencumbered LPN or RN license to practice in the State of New York Valid CPR certification BLS Instructor required, or must be willing to complete this during the initial 90 day probationary period Proficiency with computers and standard office software Demonstrated knowledge and expertise necessary to provide care primarily to the geriatric population Degree of Travel Travel required for occasional off-site meetings Disruption to Routine Disruption to routine is to be expected frequently Safety Hazards in Job High stress, exposure to potentially hazardous secretions or environments.
