Central Hudson is seeking an Engineer to join our Electric Construction Standards team. Standards Engineers perform engineering assignments related to the design of the company’s electric distribution system, including analyzing and approving all materials used for construction. Standards Engineers also perform utilization support for customer connections to the company’s distribution system. Title/level is commensurate with practice. What does an Engineer – Electric Construction Standards do? » Uses computer-aided design software (AutoCAD, Visio, SPIDAcalc) to create distribution standards and to execute structural analyses of overhead systems » Creates distribution construction standards with safety, regulatory standards, and codes (NESC, RUS, ANSI/IEEE, ACSE), fellow employees, and the public in mind » Provides technical support for the company’s Electric Operations, Estimating and New Business groups » Develops and maintains specifications for all equipment used on the company’s electric distribution system, including cable, wire, transformers, and pole hardware » Supports the Supply Chain group in maintaining distribution equipment stocking levels to ensure that day-to-day operations are not negatively impacted » Analyzes performance of the company’s in-service electric distribution equipment and hardware to determine failure trends that may have an impact on customer relicapability and recommends any remedial measures » Interacts with utility equipment manufacturers and suppliers to ensure that specifications are met and that the highest quality assurance measures are met » Collaboratively works with the System Construction, Purchasing, Real Property, Environmental groups for distribution construction standard design work » Provides utilization support located on a strong NEC background » Represents Central Hudson in industry activities and organizations (IEEE, EPRI, etc.) » Supports storm/emergency restoration efforts as needed What does it take to be an Engineer – Electric Construction Standards? Required: » Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or related field of study » Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the capability to lgain new computer software programs quickly » Well-developed written and verbal communication expertise » Excellent problem-solving expertise with innovation in mind » Strong analytical, organizational, and quantitative expertise » capability to execute all tasks safely and design with safety in mind » capability to voice opinions & lead discussions amongst industry groups » Flexibility to multitask and operate under pressure in a fast-paced work environment » Valid driver’s license Preferred: » Professional Engineer license » Proficiency in code interpretation such as, but not limited to the NEC, NESC and RUS » Field of study in mechanical engineering » expertise of and/or practice in the electric and gas utility industry » Work practice in a related engineering function Applications will be accepted until June 2, 2023 .
