Job Summary The Intellectual Property (IP) Manager manages the protection operations of Rensselaer's intellectual property and is responsible for receiving, processing and managing new invention disclosures; determining patentcapability of inventions; preparing, filing and monitoring appropriate patent applications in coordination with outside patent counsel; and supporting the licensing efforts within the Office of Intellectual Property Optimization (IPO). Minimum Qualifications » Bachelor's degree in a field of engineering or science » Registration as Patent Agent/attorney with a minimum of five years' practice in the transactional and patent opinion/analysis, patent preparation and prosecution practice, and interaction with external counsel. candidates must meet stated minimum education and practice requirements. Preferred Qualifications » Master's degree preferred in a field of engineering or science » practice in the licensing of technology » practice in the management of intellectual property databases Minimum Knowledge, expertise, and Abilities » Working knowledge of intellectual property and technology commercialization » Demonstrated knowledge of the patent and licensing processes » Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite » capability to analyze and interpret data » capability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing » Excellent interpersonal and organizational expertise » capability to work effectively under pressure and meet established goals and objectives » capability to work independently or as part of a team » capability to work in fast paced, rapidly changing environment. » Demonstrated problem solving and project management expertise » Demonstrated capability to work independently with minimal supervision » Excellent oral and written expertise Preferred Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities » Knowledge of Export Control Law.
