Accountant

We are currently recruiting for an Accountant. The individual chosen will be responsible for maintaining the Credit Union's accounting records and reports, including assisting in the preparation of financial reporting, assigned accounting reconciliations, and collaborating on financial analysis for certain business segments. Candidates must have basic expertise of financial accounting principles, balance sheet and earnings statements.
 
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
 
   » Using Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, monitoring and preparing reports/reconciliations of assigned general ledger accounts to provide proof of accurate classifications and assumptions to support the analytical processes of management. This includes preparation of necessary adjusting journal entries and performing other assigned everyday operational tasks.
   » Collaborating on accounting and/or operational/settlement matters with other departments, correspondents, and vendors and preparing financial analysis for certain business and/or product segments.
   » Supporting special projects/studies and developing or recommending accounting and/or operational/settlement methods and procedures.
 
Performance Measurements include:
 
   » Assuring member service is top priority, which includes treating members and other employees professionally with courtesy and respect and upholding the MHV Brand Standards.
   » Maintaining all assignments and/or assigned accounts such that they are in balance and current within five days of posting.
   » Performing all month-end activities, including balancing accounts and producing financial statements within ten days after the end of each month.
   » Providing informed, professional assistance to others in the Credit Union regarding accounting and finance.
   » Staying abreast of current trends affecting the financial services industry, having an overall expertise of the credit union, its policies and procedures and continually expanding expertise and developing expertise.

   » One year to three years of similar or related practice.
   » Education equivalent to a college degree (BS or BA in accounting or finance).
   » Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.
   » Requires strong analytical and research expertise and capability to apply information to complete and understand various complex reconcilements, as well as strong time management, the capability to manage multiple workloads with prosperous results, and the capability to work independently. This also includes strong organizational expertise, excellent verbal and written communication expertise, listening expertise, problem analysis and problem resolution with above-average interpersonal expertise, above average computer expertise (i.e., Microsoft Office). practice with automated data processing systems including PC software programs and mainframe system.
   » Is able to bend, sit, and stand in order to execute primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation. Normal range of vision and hearing abilities required. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals and keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, and calculators. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.
   » Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.
   » Must be able to execute job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to complete basic mathematical calculations, spell accurately, and understand computer basics. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to execute responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
   » Work is generally performed within an office environment, primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential. Sedentary, sitting, standing, walking, occasional lifting (overhead, waist level) from floor, bending, frequent near vision use for reading and computer use, and standard office equipment available.
