Accounting Manager

The Accounting Manager will be responsible for preparing financial statements that follow all regulatory and accounting guidelines under the supervision of the Executive Director, Controller. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for identifying and preventing discrepancies and helping set up control systems. The Accounting Manager will apply generally accepted principles of accounting to ensure proper financial reporting. this function will supervise and mentor the accounting staff members. This is a full-time hybrid function with a minimum of two required days at Excelsior's home office of 7 Columbia Circle, Albany, NY, with the remainder of the days worked in the house. 
tasks and Responsibilities: 
   » Review monthly and annual reconciliations and schedules prepared by staff accountants to ensure reconciliation of general ledger accounts, supporting the financial statements and information provided to external auditors. 
   » Prepare monthly and annual financial statements for Management and the Board of Trustees. 
   » Review audit schedules to prepare for the year end audit of the financial records of the College, retirement plan audits and A-133 audit of Federal Programs by the external auditors. 
   » Review schedules prepared for the required Federal and State information returns, including the Form 990; assist in the compilation of financial data and submission of required documentation to federal agencies on a quarterly and annual basis. 
   » Assist with reviewing, analyzing and revising policies and procedures to ensure maintenance of strong internal controls. 
   » Under the supervision of the AVP/Controller, assist in the review, analysis, and interpretation of changing federal and state regulations to ensure compliance in all areas of financial reporting. 
   » Review, analyze, and summarize the compliance requirements for the federal grants and loan programs, including pre-award budget preparation. Engage and educate required participants outside the fiscal office in order to meet the regulatory and contractual terms of the award. Assist in the post-award reporting and compliance monitoring of federal grants.
Qualifications required 
   » Minimum of Bachelor’s degree with a major in Accounting (or similar major) required. Master’s degree (in Accounting or MBA) or licensure as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.
   » A minimum of three to five years of accounting practice, including managery practice. Additional practice, including in Higher Education or Public Accounting, highly desired.
   » Strong attention to detail and capability to create work results with a high degree of accuracy required.
   » Solid expertise of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulations.
   » practice with integrated accounting systems and using the information from such systems to generate financial reports is highly desirable.
