Special Education TeacherPOSITION OVERVIEWPOSITION SUMMARYthis job offer is responsible for development and implementation of classroom instructional plans for students in Neil Hellman School and the School at Northeast. Is responsible for supporting students success in academic and behavioral goals. ESSENTIAL tasks AND RESPONSIBILITIES » Follow all Agency policies and procedures, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to our school and students. » Develop and implement a classroom instructional plan located on a students IEP and grade and subject area curricula; work with content area teachers to ensure that their lessons are differentiated as to meet the needs of all students. » Develop and implement Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) for all students on their caseload. Ensure that accommodations and modifications are provided. Provide specially designed instruction and monitor student progress toward academic and behavioral goals. Complete progress reports and IEP updates as required, and participate in CSE meetings as scheduled. » Coordinate the creation of special strategies for reinforcing material or expertise located on an knowledge of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities; create and modify materials to match student abilities. » Develop and coordinate the implementation of individual and classroom behavior plans for managing student behavior to maintain discipline in the classroom; supervise the collecting of behavior data; assist classroom staff with crisis avoidance and intervention techniques; assist classroom staff with de-escalation techniques when appropriate; teach students appropriate behavior strategies. » Manage and coordinate and model the implementation of classroom PBIS universal components and Tier 2 and 3 strategies for selected students as needed. » Manage and coordinate the safety and well- being of students through the use of established classroom and schoolwide processes and procedures; supervise classroom staff in implementing these with their work with students all over the building. » Follow school and agency procedures and policies for reporting incidents. This includes behavior incident reports (IR) as well as incidents such as child/sexual abuse, substance abuse, harassment, bullying, and violence. » Establish positive relationships with parents and family members to create a partnership around student treatment, student behavior, and academic progress. » Schedule, supervise, and monitor teacher adjuncts as they assist students in various non-instructional environments. (e.g. lunch room, recess/breaks, bus loading/unloading, playground, classroom, washroom, field trips, transportation, assemblies, etc.) » Lead and attend various classroom grade level, and behavior/treatment meetings as well as professional training and development sessions as required or needed (e.g. TCI, CPR, emergency procedures and other agency requirements. » Provide leadership abilities to assigned teacher adjuncts in the various clerical and non - instructional tasks as required or needed for your classroom. » Work collaboratively with other teachers, clinicians, administrators, medical staff and other school staff to provide integrated support, assistance, and treatment to students. EDUCATION and/or practice » Requires a Masters degree in Special Education or subject area, as appropriate, and capability to work with students who demonstrate serious emotional and behavioral challenges, ages 6-21. » Bachelors degree with enrollment in a program that leads to a Masters degree may be considered. CERTIFICATION / LICENSURE » Requires NYS certification in Special Education or appropriate subject area, or enrollment in a program that leads to NYS teacher certification.
