Job Summary
The Animal Care Technician (BioResearch Technician) will perform all tasks related to the day-to-day operation of the animal research facility which include animal care and husbandry and facility sanitization and maintenance. The BioResearch Technician also will support basic research procedures, as directed by the Operations Manager.

Minimum Qualifications
   » High School diploma or equivalent
   » Minimum of two (2) years of significant practice with laboratory rodent husbandry
candidates must meet stated minimum education and practice requirements.

Preferred Qualifications
   » AVMA accredited associates degree in Veterinary Technology or Laboratory Animal Science
   » AALAS certification
   » practice working in a scientific or research environment
   » practice with anesthesia procedures or surgery
   » practice with management of transgenic animal lines
 

Minimum expertise, expertise, and Abilities
   » Excellent interpersonal expertise; the capability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
   » Basic expertise of federal regulations regarding animal maintenance and handling
   » expertise of the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (?the Guide?)
   » capability to work cooperatively with manager, faculty, technicians, animal care workers, inspectors and veterinarians
   » practice sanitizing rooms and equipment
   » capability to keep accurate records and prepare reports as mandated by the Animal Welfare Act and ?the Guide?
   » capability to make careful observation and objective assessment
   » Basic expertise of research animal biology, husbandry and health
   » expertise of basic animal research procedures
   » capability to work well in a team environment
   » capability to anticipate and solve problems
   » capability to work independently

 7:30am to 4pm, rotating weekends and/or holidays

Starting income/Rate
Expected hiring range: $22.50 - $23.75 / hr
