Credible Messenger MentorPOSITION OVERVIEWPOSITION SUMMARYthis job offer will be responsible for developing transformative mentoring relationships with youth in the justice system. Credible Messenger Mentoring for youth in the juvenile justice system is s transformative process through which individuals from similar backgrounds, especially men and women who were themselves justice-involved, engage youth in structured and intentional relationships that help them change their attitudes, belief, and actions.ESSENTIAL tasks AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other tasks may be assigned. » Mentor youth in the justice system » Conduct individual outreach, relationship development, and follow up with youth » Model a lifestyle of sustained transformation » Advocate and support youth as they interact with justice systems, education, employment, health, and social service systems » Develop workshops and seminars for youth, including conducting restorative Justice seminars for youth and/or Independent living expertise like Job coaching » Facilitate positive youth development, restorative justice, and cognitive-behavioral group sessions for youth » Partner with Parent Peer Coach and OCFS staff to support family-driven, youth-guided planning » Function within the Community Multi-Service Office of the Department of Juvenile Justice and Opportunities for Youth managerY RESPONSIBILITIES this job offer has no managery responsibilities. leadership abilitiesFunctions as an independent contributor without specific responsibility to give direction or supervision to other staff.SUPERVISION RECEIVEDGeneral supervision: routine tasks are performed with minimal supervision; standard practices or procedures allow to proceed alone at routine work; occasional check of work while in progress; work is reviewed upon completion. Basic use of computers, and office equipment or other tools requiring a basic expertise knowledge. tasks may include clerical, customer service, office work, or other basic work adaptable to standard routines.COMMUNICATION and CONTACT with OTHERSRequires effective communication expertise. Communication involves frequent contacts with clients/families, other departments, and individuals in administrative or managerial positions, communicating on information and non-controversial problems within and outside the organization and presenting information and recommendations for solutions. Represents the organization in routine public activities such as making client-related simple presentations or providing information. Interpersonal communication at this level requires effective communication expertise to obtain cooperation or share/receive information which will contribute to decision making.DECISION MAKINGWork is performed under occasional supervision with regular guidance and follow-up. Standard procedures are followed and unusual problems are referred to the manager.
