A Substation Design Engineer performs engineering assignments related to planning/scoping, design, and project construction management of the various projects related to Central Hudson’s system. Title/level is commensurate with practice. What does a Substation Design Engineer do? » Perform design work for electric substations & related facilities. Perform all tasks and develop all plans & designs in a manner that recognizes safety for self, fellow employees, and the general public » Display a thorough knowledge of ESD procedures, processes, and guidelines. Also, display an in depth knowledge of corporate procedures and processes. Demonstrate the capability to properly follow them as applicable in every assignment » Demonstrate a technical knowledge regarding Electric Substation Design. Identify and promote innovative solutions to engineering problems and/or productivity enhancements to existing processes » Develop a good working relationship and work collaboratively with Electric System Protection and Substation Operations personnel to carryout projects from start to finish. » Demonstrate the capability to carry small/medium ESD projects from start to finish, including cost estimates, Work Order Authorization, CARE approval, equipment and site technical specifications, bidding and selection process, equipment ordering/contractor selection, drawing mark-up, drawing completion by Drafting, wire-checking and transmittal to Substation Operations and construction assistance. On project completion, approve as-built changes and file the project and the instruction books » Work effectively in teams with Drafting, Substation Operations and Electric System Protection personnel to produce constructible work packages needed to support the capital plan and any emergent work requiring ESD support » Share information, develop technical knowledge, and offer guidance, and/or training on complex topics to both other employees » Demonstrate improvement with each assignment and an capability to incorporate multiple unscheduled projects and assignments into the work plan without negative impacts to previously assigned goals » Represent Central Hudson in industry activities and organizations (NYISO, EPRI, NYSRC, NPCC, etc.) » Possess refined communication expertise, written and verbal, necessary to report issues and recommendations in an objective, clear, and concise manner to peers, managers, and managers » Strive for continuous improvement and respectfully challenge the ideas of colleagues and managers What does it take to be a Substation Design Engineer? Required: » Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (focus on Power is preferred). Bachelor’s Degrees in other Engineering fields will be considered » Strong analytical, organizational, and quantitative expertise » Well-developed written/verbal communication expertise are required to work independently and/or as a group in order to execute all tasks safely and design with safety in mind » Possess the inter-personal expertise necessary to maintain effective working relationships with and to be responsive to customers, fellow employees, and all of the Company’s external relationships » Flexibility to multitask and operate under pressure in a fast-paced work environment » Excellent problem-solving expertise, with innovation in mind » Provide support for storm restoration efforts » Valid driver’s license Applications will be accepted until June 15, 2023 .
