Director of Academic ProgrammingBard CollegeDirector of Academic ProgrammingEmployer Website:The Hannah Arendt Center for Politics and Humanities at Bard College seeks a Director of Academic Programming. The Director of Academic Programming is critical to the functioning of this expanding educational initiative, and the main responsibilities include management of program events, research and writing, student advising, and assistance in planning the Hannah Arendt Center (HAC) annual conference. The person in this job offer will report to the Founder and Academic Director of the HAC. Essential tasks » Field visiting scholar inquiries and onboard visiting scholars from start to finish » Create, host, and manage academic program events in collaboration with the student fellows » Assist the Founder and Academic Director with representing HAC when he is unavailable » Assist with managing annual journal production » Assist with planning the HAC annual Fall Conference, including related administrative tasks, recruiting speakers, and representing HAC as a panelist (if needed) » Advise the center's academic student groups and academic student-led events » Organize and supervise academic reading groups and tutorials as needed » Assist with the Virtual Reading Group sessions » Research and write for the weekly newsletter, Amor Mundi » Assist the Bard College archivist with the Hannah Arendt archive as needed » Teach 1/1 courses per year either in First-Year Seminar or in the Courage to Be Seminar. Qualifications The Director of Academic Programming should have either a Ph.D. or related advanced degree and/or proven success and leadership abilities in an academic, intellectual capacity. There are possibilities for collaborations with academic programs, depending on the person's background. While skills in Hannah Arendt's work is not required, expertise of and interest in Arendt's approach to political thinking is highly desired.
