Saturday Activity Program

JOB DESCRIPTION

As a Saturday Activity Program(SAP)/Learning Enrichment After School Program (LEAP) adjunct , you'll work with participants at the Center and in the community with various activities, assist with creating and supporting calendar events. As well as, supporting participants with learning enrichment during the after-school program.

Independent Living, Inc., is a progressive and dynamic cross-discapability services organization and a leader in the provision of peer services in the Hudson Valley region. As a Saturday Activity Program (SAP)/Learning Enrichment After School Program (LEAP) adjunct , having practice working with participants in similar types of programs is a plus! Being flexible and available to work on Saturdays are a MUST. Minimum of a high-school diploma. First Aid and CPR is required.

tasks AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
   » Assists participants at the Center and in the community to get involved in various activities.
   » Deals with various problems arising during activities.
   » Assists participants with activities (such as ordering lunch, bowling, etc.)
   » Makes every effort to guarantee that everyone in the activity is enjoying themselves.
   » Works with parents to ensure participant needs are met.
   » Continues to work with Respite Coordinator on ways to increase consumer participation, and activities to be considered for the program.
   » Completes attendance records as requested by Respite Coordinator.
   » Supports and contributes to the creation of Monthly Calendar for scheduled activities.
   » Assists Participants with managing their money provided for activities and outings. Ensures proper spending and correct change.
   » Collects and submits receipts for participant's spending and agency funds for activities.
   » Works with LEAP Coordinator during the LEAP after School Program to provide support to participants.
   » The above list of responsibilities is not intended to be all inclusive, other responsibilities and/or training may be assigned or required.

Qualifications

   » practice working with participants in a similar type of program, a plus.
   » expertise of local, statewide and national discapability related issues and community dynamics.
   » Excellent written and verbal presentation expertise.
   » Must have an capability to supervise participants in this program.
   » Must be flexible and positive in approach, organized and hard working.
   » Must be reliable and available to work Saturdays.
   » Valid Driver's License required.
   » First Aid and CPR required. capability to be certified within one year of employment required.
   » Should possess positive communication expertise.
   » Honesty, respect for diversity, high personal standards, language and behaviors reflecting such values and the Independent Living philosophy.
   » Demonstrated capability to recognize the need for and facilitate connections between consumers and IL and other discapability related services.
