Literacy Specialist- DCB 2045- 23/24ANTICIPATED VACANCY:STAFF SPECIALIST - LITERACY SPECIALIST (1.0 FTE) LOCATION(S): Regional Partnership Center SUMMARY: The Staff Specialist, Literacy Specialist, will provide training and technical assistance to staff in school districts and programs related to knowledge and acquisition of literacy expertise within multi-tiered systems of support. tasks AND RESPONSIBILITIEs: The following is indicative of the level and types of activities performed by incumbents in this title. It is not meant to be all-inclusive and does not preclude a manager from assigning activities not listed that could reasonably be expected to be performed by an employee in this title. 1. Provide professional development, technical assistance and coaching to staff in schools, districts and programs across the Mid-Hudson region on: Evidence-located literacy instructional programs and strategies Specially designed literacy instruction for students with disabilities Delivery of instruction and assessment within the Multi-Tiered System of Support framework Assessing student results through benchmarking, progress monitoring and diagnostic assessment Fidelity of implementation assessments for core literacy programs and literacy interventions 2. In collaboration with other Regional Partnership Center specialists, facilitate district and school teams in: developing and implementing support plans that impact literacy results for students with disabilities; conducting regional needs assessment and setting Regional Partnership Center goals. 3. Collaborate with the Early Childhood and School Aged Family and Community Engagement Centers to develop and deliver training for families of students with disabilities in support of literacy development 4. Collect and analyze data to develop and assess support plans 5. Document work and submit required information and reports to NYSED OSE on activities and impact of those activities QUALIFICATIONS, practice AND COMPETENCIES : Minimum Qualifications required Master's degree in Special Education and/or literacy related field. At least three years practice as a teacher or related service provider with students with disabilities, and/or as a literacy coach or reading specialist Valid NYS teacher and/or administrative certification practice providing professional development and/or technical assistance. Preferred Qualifications required Knowledge of special education law, regulations, and policy practice in IEP development practice in planning, implementing, and/or evaluating school improvement initiatives NYS Literacy certification Excellent presentation, organizational and time-management expertise capability to travel all over the Mid-Hudson region capability to participate in at least one overnight trip to Albany annually.
