What is an Engineer – Smart Grid?
The Engineer – Smart Grid plays a key function in the distribution automation program in support of Central Hudson’s Grid Modernization program.
 
What does an Engineer – Smart Grid do?
   » Works on a team a team of engineering professionals with primary responsibilities for our distribution automation efforts.
   » Supports the implementation of the distribution automation program in support of the Company’s Grid Modernization plans.
   » Supports the Company’s electric relicapability initiatives specific to relicapability improvement efforts through distribution automation.
   » Identifies and implements appropriate changes to existing processes that foster continuous improvement in productivity.
   » Models system components for distribution analysis on three-phase, two-phase and single-phase systems.
   » Programs, troubleshoots and optimizes field devices for use in FLISR schemes and deployment of CVR.
   » Completes assigned reports, goals, objectives, and special assignments on schedule through the appropriate use of corporate assets and control of costs.
   » Develops and fosters relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to obtain and share information that will benefit the company, share best practices, provide, and obtain technical advice and build bases of influence.
   » Remains current with technology, policy developments and industry practices as they pertain to support of modernization of the distribution grid.
   » Provides support for storm restoration efforts
 
What does it take to be an Engineer - Electric System Protection?
Required:
   » Bachelor’s degree in engineering
   » Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and the capability to lgain new computer software programs quickly
   » Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication expertise
   » capability to multitask, juggle competing priorities, navigate complex situations, and consistently use good judgment.
   » Demonstrate a high level of intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm and promote a strong work ethic and positive customer service approach.
   » Must be willing to respond to all requests to work outside of normal business hours.
   » Must be able to travel as required (e.g. Albany, New York City, Washington DC, etc.).
   » Valid driver’s license.
Preferred:
   » Master’s degree in engineering
   » Professional Engineer license
   » Significant practice in the regulated Electric and/or Gas Utility industry; particularly in distribution space
   » expertise of industry technologies, operating practices, and distribution engineering theory preferred
