adjunct PROFESSOR OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

The Mechanical Engineering Department at Union College in Schenectady, NY invites applications for a tenure-track adjunct professor position starting September 1, 2024 focused in the area of computational thermal fluid sciences. Candidates with computational research in energy and/or environmental applications are especially encouraged to apply. A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related field) is required, but candidates close to finishing their Ph.D. will also be considered. We strongly encourage applications from members of groups traditionally underrepresented in the field. Increasing diversity on campus is a key objective of this hire and a top priority for Union, one that is integral to our mission of preparing students for a globally interconnected world.
The prosperous candidate would teach and develop content for a range of undergraduate courses and laboratories in thermal fluid sciences, courses with a significant communication/writing component, and potentially other introductory engineering courses. Demonstrated excellence in teaching and conducting high quality, peer reviewed and published research are requirements for success in the position. Union College has a strong record in undergraduate research, and candidates will be expected to pursue an active program of scholarly research involving undergraduate students. Additionally, Union strongly values its liberal arts tradition and candidates who are willing and able to teach to the broader campus community will be given preference.
The application package must include: a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a teaching statement, and a research statement. The teaching statement should reflect on the candidate's teaching philosophy and practice, as well as on the growing function of computational approaches within the ME thermal fluid sciences and how that changing function should impact the ME undergraduate curriculum. Additionally, the teaching statement should provide information on how the applicant can contribute to the diversity of educational practices and offerings and engage with students with diverse expertise or backgrounds. You will also be asked to include names and contact information for three references through our online application system at . If selected for the shortlist an email will be sent automatically to these references requesting a letter of recommendation. Please find the ad for this job offer at , and follow the submission instructions therein. Review of applications will begin as they come in and will continue until the position is filled. Questions may be directed to the chair of the search committee, Professor Brad Bruno (brunob@union.edu).
The income range for this job offer is $91,000-$94,000, commensurate with practice. Union offers an exceptional benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision insurance, life and discapability coverage, and generous retirement and tuition benefit packages.
