The Office of Academic Advising supports the education mission of The College of Saint Rose by enabling students to develop and implement sound educational plans consistent with their personal goals, values, and career plans.  The Office serves as a central source of academic information where students receive assistance with advising-related concerns and interpretation of College policies, programs, and requirements. In addition, the Office provides appropriate support in helping all incoming students transition prosperously to college.
The Academic Advisor provides individual academic advising and developmental college transition support for all first-year students. As part of the Academic Advising team, this job offer serves as a consistent point of contact to students from arrival on campus for orientation through the end of their first year. this job offer proactively builds a trusting and supportive relationship with new students, while identifying barriers to students' academic success and develop solutions that improve retention.  The Academic Advisor will work closely with Faculty Advisors, Academic Affairs and Student Development divisions on monitoring students' degree requirements, designing initiatives that improve procedures and policies that positively impact graduation rates.
RESPONSIBILITIES:  
   » Provide individual advising, including interpretation of credits applied toward degree requirements.
   » Advise on course scheduling and instruct students on course registration processes.
   » Meet individually with a caseload of new students in their first and second semesters to facilitate the student's academic success and personal development, and provide advising that improves overall student retention.
   » Maintain detailed records on students' progress within the academic program by using Navigate and help to reach out to students regarding their early alerts in classes.
   » Correspond with students and various college departments concerning academic matters.
   » Communicate directly, effectively, and often with all assigned students to keep them connected, informed, and engaged with the campus.
   » Leverage College technology systems to enhance relationships with students communicating positively and effectively with students by responding to questions and requests in a timely manner (typically same day) by phone and email.
   » Partner with Academic Success Center to provide workshops.
   » Assist with recruitment events, orientation of new students and graduation events.
   » Assist with Resumption of Studies applications.
   » Other tasks as assigned by the Director of Academic Advising
General Requirements:
   » Bachelor's Degree. Master's degree preferred
   » A minimum of two years' practice providing one-on-one advising or advising-related services to students in a higher education environment. Academic advising practice is preferred.
   » Demonstrated capability and commitment to engage and develop students
   » Proven track record of effectively communicating with a wide variety of constituents including students, parents, faculty and staff
   » High attention to detail
   » capability to set priorities and organize tasks, documents and materials efficiently
   » Intermediate level computer expertise using a Windows located operating system, specifically MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet.
   » practice using Banner preferred
Additional Information:
This is a full-time, full-year position.  Some weekend work is required for recruitment events.

The College of Saint Rose participates in E-Verify.
