Certified Peer Specialist - COREJOB DESCRIPTIONIndependent Living is seeking someone who can support individuals that are coping with their behavioral health symptoms. You'll be responsible for advocacy, transitional, pre-crisis and crisis support. As well as providing Empowerment Services such as, peer support, non-clinical, peer-delivered services with focus on rehabilitation, recovery, and resilience.As a Certified Peer Specialist - CORE ( C ommunity O riented R ecovery and E mpowerment), you'll provide supports and services to individuals with behavioral health challenges while working to remove barriers that would hinder them from achieving their goals and improve their lives. Independent Living, Inc., is a progressive and dynamic cross-discapability services organization and a leader in the provision of peer services in the Hudson Valley region. As a Certified Peer Specialist - CORE (Community Oriented Recovery and Empowerment) you must have personal lived practice as a former or current user of mental health services or have personal substance use recovery practice. Bachelor's Degree in Human Services plus two years of advocacy practice preferred or commensurate practice. Persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply. tasks AND RESPONSIBILITIES: » Provide Empowerment Services- peer support, non-clinical, peer-delivered services with focus on rehabilitation, recovery, and resilience. » Promotes expertise for coping with and managing behavioral health symptoms while facilitating the use of natural supports and community resources. » Person-centered recovery planning, documentation and Collaboration. » Advocacy Support- assist with building self-advocacy and self-efficacy expertise. » Activation and Engagement in Recovery- engaging in the recovery process, empowering the Individual to achieve their goals. Increase and promote hope. » Community Participation- assist the Individual in developing social networks, significant activities and building healthy relationships. » Transitional Support- transitional support for Individuals with hospitalization, detox admissions, or other institutional stays and they transition back into their home communities. » Pre-Crisis and Crises Support- use expertise of resources, treatment, services and supports to the Individual. » Network with mental health providers and community support services to maintain an integrated support system for persons with psychiatric disabilities. » Practice the principles of trauma informed care and motivation interviewing » Encourage personal empowerment, self-determination, while promoting independent living skill development. » Encourage independence and autonomy by offering information, practices and opportunities to assist individuals to make informed choices. » Complete all reporting and record keeping as required which includes entering progress notes and service plans into the agency's electronic healthcare record. » Maintain regular contact with participants' care managers to coordinate care. » Completes all reporting and record keeping following the defined processes and within the required timeframes. » Attend and actively participate in all meetings and training sessions provided by the agency. » Teach "systems navigation." » Maintain a current and working expertise of systems, issues and legislation at both a local and statewide level which affect the persons we serve, this includes but is not limited to Social Security Benefits, Dept. of Social Services, Mental Hygiene Law, Americans with Disabilities Act, as well as Independent Living philosophy. » Other tasks as assigned or required by the needs of the position. General Requirements: » Honesty, respect for diversity, high personal standards, language and behaviors reflecting such values and the Independent Living philosophy. » Demonstrated capability to recognize the need for and facilitate connections between consumers and IL and other discapability related services. » expertise of local, statewide and national discapability related issues and community dynamics. » Excellent written and verbal presentation expertise. » Must have good time management expertise and be self-directing, especially if there is any downtime.
