Scholarly Communications LibrarianExcelsior University is seeking a Scholarly Communications Librarian (SCL). The SCL will lead students, faculty and staff to new possibilities libraries can offer. The SCL will join a newly formed library team. The SCL challenges legacy processes in the exploration of new services, approaches, and initiatives. The SCL believes open access is empowering and will provide skills all over the publishing and research lifecycle.
The SCL is creative and takes risks in exploring new ideas. The SCL is a motivator who encourages collaboration and cooperation with stakeholders to advance academic excellence, creative scholarship, educational affordcapability, student success, and access by incorporating open strategies including open access, open science, data, and publishing. The SCL builds strong relationships by listening to others with great attention and sincerity. The SCL ensures a vision for the future with perseverance and keeping everyone invested. The SCL supports diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in the library and across the university. The SCL will report to the Library Director. this function is ideally located in Albany, NY or the surrounding areas, but remote candidates will be considered.

tasks and Responsibilities
» Leads and supports the development, implementation, and advocacy of innovative and effective scholarly communication service models and programs to meet the user needs and support the Excelsior University library’s mission.
» Works closely with the Electronic Resource Management Librarian to promote alternative scholarly communication models and transformational strategies for a sustainable collection budget.
» Contributes to the planning, implementation, and assessment of Open Education program activities.
» Formulates the future development of library publishing, institutional repository services, and open and affordable content for the Excelsior University Library.
» Explores state support for OER publishing platforms and state-level OER hub or repository.
» Promotes the consideration of an institutional open access policy.
» Identifies and pursues external funding resources for library initiatives.
» Works with the appropriate cross-functional team to automate institutional repository harvesting from a variety of sources.
» Coordinates the overall strategy to expand the use of open educational practices and affordable content with faculty, instructional designers, and staff in the course development process.
» Develops, implements, and manages the outreach, programming, and instructional activities promoting library service to the Excelsior community.
» Contributes to committees and attends events to cultivate relationships supporting the library’s mission to enrich the overall academic practice.
» Maintains current expertise of Open Education through peer association, review of literature, and attendance at meetings, seminars, and continuing education related to tasks and responsibilities.

» Performs other tasks as assigned to ensure smooth operations of the library.
» Strategically and collaboratively works with stakeholders to build programs and initiatives.
» Communicates effectively in writing and orally in a clear and concise manner.
» Coordinates project management services for library publishing projects.
» Raises the consciousness, application, and implementation of Open Educational practices at Excelsior University.
» Evaluates projects and services impacting library operations.
» Advocates for and is an ally for justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
» Master’s degree from an ALA accredited institution in Library and Information Science or equivalent.
» Minimum 4 years of professional academic library practice including at least two (2) years in OER and textbook affordcapability work and two (2) years in reference and instructional services.

Proven expertise and practice with copyright, open licensing, permissions, compliance, and Familiarity with programming languages, social media, web development and maintenance
