What does an Engineering Drafter do?
Under direct supervision in the Engineering Group, Engineering Drafters (Designers) typical work will include:
» Drawing and detail drafting, by hand and computer-aided device (CAD) using Autodesk AutoCAD software
» Developing drawings, maps or diagrams from sketches connected with construction work orders proposed and as-built
» Collection of accurate field measurements and sketches of Company facilities and equipment to accurately translate such data into final coordinated record form
» Interpretation of routine engineering plans and work orders
» Assisting in calculating and plotting of field surveys
» Assisting engineers and senior drafters in the design of component parts of major and minor electrical, mechanical and structural projects including:
» Control, protective relaying and telemetering systems
» Piping plans, layouts and assemblies
» Steel structure assemblies and foundations
» Execution of above tasks while adhering to established engineering procedures, standards and safe practices
prosperous candidates will initially work under direct supervision, progressing to general supervision. Training is provided which offers the opportunity to progress to a higher classification.
What does it take to be an Engineering Drafter?
» Associate’s degree (A.S. or A.A.S) or higher in Engineering, Electrical or Design/Technology. In lieu of an A.S. or A.A.S degree, a high school diploma or equivalency degree and at least two years of significant electrical design work practice
» Proficiency with AutoCAD
» Familiarity with power and control wiring
» expertise of fundamental drafting techniques
» Working expertise of electrical design (preparation of general arrangement drawings, sections, elevations, and installation details, including wiring and schematics)
» Proficient, accurate and neat handling of drafting materials and techniques
» Valid driver license
